Violence has many faces
Are you threatened, controlled or insulted by your partner, does he put you down, demean and humiliate you, are you becoming isolated, does he lose his temper if you’ve done something „wrong“, does he hit you, does he threaten to kill you, „get rid“ of you or take the children away, or does he demand sexual activities that you do not want or find unpleasant?
THERE IS A WAY OUT OF VIOLENCE
The Erlangen women’s refuge (Frauenhaus Erlangen) provides safe, anonymous, temporary accommodation, advice and support for any woman with a violent partner, together with her children.
You can regain your strength at the women’s refuge and break out of the cycle of violence.
You can call us at the women’s refuge on 09131/25872 or come to our external advice centre. We will help you to deal with everything else.
If possible, take any important documents, paperwork and money with you (e.g. ID/passport, health insurance card, bank account, child benefit number). Think about your children’s needs too (e.g. favourite toys, school supplies). You may also need a few things that are personally important to you (e.g. photos).
However, safety comes first! We can go with you later to collect anything left behind.
The women’s refuge is open to all women who are victims; they can live here alone or with their children. They determine their own future, look after themselves and their children, and have a rental agreement and a key. Everyone shares responsibility for living together in the home.
In our home, women support other women and strengthen one another – everyday conversations open up new possibilities. And new friendships are common, too. Anonymity ensures that women and children are protected.
The address of the women’s refuge must not be passed on. Visits are not possible.
Women and children are encouraged to develop new perspectives, to put ideas into practice and to process the violence they have experienced. We provide information and advice on matters such as securing a livelihood, custody and rights of access, separation and divorce, foreign law and the prevention of further acts of violence. Well-informed women are better equipped to decide on their next steps. If you wish, we will accompany you to official appointments with the authorities and other agencies. We can find female translators, including for sign language, if required.
The women’s refuge is wheelchair-accessible.
Unfortunately we do not have the necessary infrastructure for women with addiction problems,
…but we are happy to provide advice on appropriate facilities.
The information and advice centre is open to all women who would like information on women’s rights, advice and support. We also provide general information on the subject of equality and on other schemes to help strengthen women.
Advice is provided by women for women in the interests of the affected party, free of charge and anonymously. We can call on female translators if required.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS A VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
EVERY WOMAN HAS THE RIGHT TO SEPARATE FROM A VIOLENT HUSBAND OR PARTNER.
HAVE THE COURAGE TO LEAVE!
Get help and support! Turn to someone you can trust and/or contact us at the women’s refuge or the advice centre!
Don’t be afraid to call the police if you are in real danger!
The police have the power to remove violent men from a shared home and to forbid contact by issuing a restraining order (Protection Against Violence Act ).
Keep a record of the occasions on which your partner uses violence!
This may be important, for example, when it comes to lodging complaints, divorce proceedings or rules on custody and access for shared children. Have your injuries – even if it’s „only“ bruises – verified by a female doctor.
The period of separation can be a stressful and dangerous time for you. We will be happy to support and accompany you along the path to a self-determined life for you and your children without violence at the hands of a man!
